LDB Vintage Series #030

Hi there! After closing both my Master and Special series I took a break from seeding, enjoying life and most of all
preparing for a new series! This is not going to be as frequent as my previous ones, I’ll be seeding shows from time
to time so don’t expect massive volumes here.

Why a “vintage” series? Because music in the 70’s and 80’s was really something…so different, so special with “that” kind
of sound which you don’t find anymore. That was the era of real music without the internet, of long tours and enjoyable live
shows spanning from metal to new wave, progressive, jazz, fusion, pop. So many bands were born and disappeared during those
two decades.

I am then celebrating the 70’s and the 80’s and their unmistakeable sound in this LDB Vintage Series. You will find many bands
I have never seeded in the past but that I still enjoy listening to. Most of these come from low generation tapes that were traded
around that period, many radio broadcasts and overall lots of surprises.

Hope you will enjoy this new series!

Lineage: WGLD-FM Radio broadcast > n generation tape > TEAC Tape Deck AD-RW900 > Creative Sound Blaster Recon 3D >
HD > SoundForge Pro 10.0 > CD Wave > FLAC Frontend (level 6)

Ray Manzanek: piano, organ, lead vocals
Robby Krieger: lead guitar, vocals
John Densmore: drums, percussion
Jack Conrad: bass guitar
Bobby Ray Henson: rhythm guitar, percussion, backing vocals

This was the first show of the “Full Circle” tour, the last tour they did before disbanding, which concluded at the
Hollywood Bowl in September that year. Of course they have reunited many times since then, but I guess we should consider
this as the last tour.

Believe it or not, I much prefer this tour and album than the Jim Morrison ones. Here the band was somehow on a creative
peak, mixing rock, blues, a bit of jazz and funk. A great blend of music. Verdillac is such a great listen!

Incredibly there are no shows currently on DIME with the post-Morrison line-up. Hope I have filled the gap. This is a nice
radio broadcast from WGLD in Chicago. Good listen, shortie but goodie. I guess a good companion to the Beat Club footage
from the same year that you can find on youtube.

Enjoy!

Bill Evans – Hamburg, Germany (02/14/72)

Bill Evans Trio w/ Herb Geller
14th February 1972
Studio 10
Hamburg, Germany

Most of the seeds i do are actually “reseeds” of very good material i found here on DIME. As i’m not often seeding any “new material”, i appreciate make things
staying on the tracker, especially when it concerns quality recordings. Evans is a classic, ad a brillant one.

I made 2 different directorys as we got the concert from two different seeders. They were both seeded at different moments,
and i decided to make just one seed so that everyone can appreciate a complete recording… I think it fits on one cd.

Thanks to both original seeders.

The original source stays the same: FM source.

Sound quality is excellent studio one, maybe better than lot of commercial releases of Evans.
Hope you’ll enjoy, all this material was already seeded on DIME those 2 last years.

Comments:

Far East Tour
March 6th-March 18th, 1972.

I find recordings from the Japan ’72 tour to be considerably better than the recycled Feb. 17, ’72 show in London. In particularly this one. First off, it contains the entire DSotM! Us and Them isn’t hacked (nor is Time or Brain Damage), and Eclipse is not faded. The sound quality is VG+ to Ex for this time period, and the polite Japanese crowd is felt but not heard. Furthermore, OotD is the best I’ve heard. Listening to it, you are moved with its rapid drive. This version is especially unique because they begin experimenting with their electronics during the ‘Dr. Who’ section to generate this ‘race car’ sound which zips around your head. Check it out.

The video has nice footage, but I’m skeptical about the sourcing. The live footage to “AHM” does not correspond to the music (your lips move, but i can’t hear what your saying!…and just how does Dave make those guitar sounds without moving his hands?). Cymbaline is credited to be from the Fillmore, but it looks more like the BBC/Top Gear studio. No complaints about The Making of the Wall. But again, nice to see images different from the Miles book.” – PIG1DO

The recording is extremely distant, but sounds OK if you wear a good set of headphones. Vocals are loud enough, yet hardly any drums.

Performance wise, a strong one. The band does a great OTR and Money has some trouble at the beginning (enjoyable, though). Its not a must have, but since it’s the only RoIO of that show it’s worth having in your collection. – Toddstar

I’ve been having a hard time finding a good version of this show. This one is still enjoyable but not the best one… it’s still a nice performance… Seems like there’s a lot of echo in the auditorium. – PL
