Queen – Tokyo, Japan (03/31-04/01/76)

Queen
Tokyo, Japan, Budokan
March 31 & April 1, 1976

Direct transfer of the Japanese vinyl boot “INVITE YOU TO A NIGHT AT THE BUDOKAN” (Marc TQ-76059).

This comes from a different website and is not my work originally, apart from the d-eklicking, which imho upgrades this considerably. but I had always wanted to hear this boot and thought a few others might like to hear it as well, especially since it only sounded worse in its later re-releases.

Lineage: MARC LP – stand alone cdr recorder pioneer pcdr01 – cdr (1) to FLAC level 8 – tlh – SoundForge – tlh – Dime

Notes from the original uploader:

why this share ?

Well simply because all other versions which aren’t from this LP but from rereleases from this specific L.P. are all in inferiour sound.

This was the first boot which was released with this show. It is a highly collectable Lp bootleg. And all the rereleases like :

  • Mercury Poisoning (lp)
  • The Battle of 76 (lp)
  • Year of the opera (cd)

Feature a less good soundquality.

So for the fan who wants it all.

The Japanese bootleg label MARC made 4 Queen boot lp’s which are all very rare. And of course expensive.

These are the vinyls :
MARQ-TQ 75122 KIMONO MY PLACE LIVE 1 lp. (tokyo may 1st. 1975)
MARQ-TQ 76059 INVITE YOU TO A NIGHT AT THE BUDO KAN (see this topic)
MARQ -TQ 76042 LAZING ON A SUNDAY EVENING 1lp (tokyo april 4h. 1976)
ZAP 7960 FREE IN THE PARk 1lp (hyde park sept. 18th. 1976) *

  • ZAP which stands for “ZE ANONYM PLATENSPIELER (the anonymous record player, it is in german) was a american bootleg label. Which had nothing to do with MARC. The MARC label made many boots in the 70’s for many bands. And the MARC label stood for high quality bootlegs (soundwise) among record collectors. Because the HYDE PARK show was recorded in such a bad quality MARC decided to annoy ZAP (their compettitor) by releasing a inferiour qualtiy bootleg on the ZAP label instead of their own label.

Lineage :

  • INVITE YOU TO A NIGHT AT THE BUDO KAN 1 lp MARC label (MARC-TQ 76059 matrixnr.) – to stand alone cdr recorder pioneer pcdr01 – cdr (1) to FLAC level 8

The show is :
Tokyo, Japan, Nippon Budokan march 31st. 1976

LP SIDE A :
Intro: Bohemian Rhapsody (mid ~ end section) April 1st
Flick Of The Wrist April 1st
Hangman April 1st
Brighton Rock April 1st
Son And Daughter (end part) April 1st
Seven Seas Of Rhye March 31st
LP SIDE B

lazing On A Sunday Afternoon March 31st

It seems ‘See What A Fool I’ve Been’ is cut on other bootleg lps (according to Queenlive.ca) but it does not seem to be cut here (great performance by the way). Nice sound! Thank you!

Come On, Blondie!

Original lineage – Mono cassette > WAV > editing with Samplitude > FLAC

This is a speed-corrected & re-tracked version of the show Robert953 so kindly
shared here the other day at http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-
details.php?id=300497 .

This is great and you don’t even need to worry about Rober953’s warnings about
sound quality, in my opinion – his tape sounds great. A bit hissy, but you’ll have probably heard much worse. I certainly have!

I read on http://www.queenlive.ca that the tape ran a bit slow and on checking myself I
found that it did indeed need speeding up by 3%.

Having done that I also re-tracked the show, giving each song its own index point and adding fades to the start and end of the discs. I also moved Freddie’s intro to ‘The Prophet’s Song’ to the start of that track, rather than the end of the previous one, since it opens disc 2.

I removed about 6 minutes of between-encores clapping – I know some people
don’t approve of this, but the un-tampered master is still available at the address at the top of this posting. This isn’t meant to be definitive, blah, blah…

Oh, and I made a bit of artwork (really just some of the great photos Rober953
took at the show, which are over at http://www.queenlive.ca , along with tracklistings).

Hope you like it!

(Remaster/Speed-fix of Dan Lampinski Vol.3)(Flac)

Remaster to fix speed/pitch, tidy up cassette swap & stop edits, and clean & tighten up the overall sound

Many Thanks to djscomics, Kev & Carl and Dan Lampinski for the original torrent on Dime.

This Remaster (Cuztard Pi): *.flac (24bit/96Khz) -> Foobar2000 -> *.wav -> Wavelab6 -> *.wav (16bit/44.1kHz) -> Foobar2000 (level 8) -> *.flac -> Dime

The original recording was in excellent shape but IMHO did need some attention to fix a few issues, mainly:
– Wrong speed/pitch (I determined that the original plays +51 cents sharp)
– some rough edits due to cassette swap & stop
– slightly excessive tape hiss
– insufficient bass response (IMO)

The basic details of the mastering applied to the original 24bit/96Khz version from djscomics seed on Dime (using Wavelab6) are as follows:
A: edit/fill/crossfade cassette swap & stop points (to disguise the abrupt/rough edits)
B: Fix mono portion of Track 1 ‘Bohemian Rhapsody (Opera)’
C: Time stretch by 103.1% (equals -51 cent pitch change)
D: Slight de-hiss
E: EQ / Multiband Compression / Limiting (-0.2dB max) / Dithering to 16bit (bass boost & tighten up the sound)
F: WAVs edited to fit on to 2xCDRs (with overlap) plus fade in/out (using the same CD break point as the original)
G: track split (I’ve added a few more track breaks as per track list above)

Please note that this remaster reflects my own personal preferences with respect to listening to live shows. Remastering has been done to polish the raw master recording with the aim of enhancing the listening experience. This includes some editing of the original to disguise the cassette swap & stop points to make it seamless (i.e. prior to ‘The Prophet’s Song’, ‘Now I’m Here’ & ‘Hey Big Spender’) as well as some tweaks to ‘polish up’ the overall sound. So if you prefer virgin recordings, unspoiled by any such amateur ‘dabbling’ then do not join in on this one, you can still get the original recording on Dime (for CD 16bit format) here:

Description: Nice sounding audience tape from the 1976 tour. You can’t say that about many ’76 shows, but to my ears this is a good one. Standard setlist for the ’76 tour, which remained virtually the same throughout. The recording itself sounds a shade overmodulated in places, this is the source tape talking, not my transfer. I think you will really enjoy this one, as I have over the years!
