From the original uploader:
Here, somewhat belatedly, is the first European show, and arguably the first show of the tour proper.

I was there and it was an amazing show, real fun, with a very eager audience.

The title is a reference to the correct pronunciation of “McGrath”. He explains how he was chastised about this in the intro, which is at the end of the track with ‘My Oklahoma Home’. The pronunciation regressed on the subsequent BBC concert, so while the setlist may not be unique, this show may be only one with him getting that surname right!

The sound quality is ok, but could do with some improvement. Rather than fiddle with it, I have left this exactly as on the CD-Rs, so someone with better software and mixing skills will have an untainted source. If someone would like to do a remix, here are some areas in need of attention:
* The volume level is low and need normalising.
* May need more bass.
* There is some hiss on ‘s’ sounds, I noticed this on ‘My City of Ruins’

Review from Van-the-Man:
This is an excellent sounding audience recording of a great show. Very impassioned performances. The artwork, as you would expect from Tonight Only, is superb. It features a poster from the actual show and images from outside the Olympia Theater.

From the original uploader:
An excellent show from Van & his band.

I taped this from Row G right under the right hand stack. Crowd around me were quiet and apart from the bloke in front of me talking to his Mrs once or twice the only other thing to be aware of is me coughing – I’d a tickly cough all day and forgot to get a bottle of water. It’s not too bad but it’s there.

In my humble opinion this is the best recording I’ve ever made in the Point/O2/3 Arena.

For the old fashioned amongst us who still burn to disc I’d suggest splitting
after Talk Is Cheap.

Notes from the original torrentor:

This is something truly special for Van Morrison fans. 45 minutes of the Belfast Cowboy performing solo on acoustic guitar in an Irish television station studio. The show was called Talk About Pop, and Van’s appearance included an interview with host Tony Johnson and Donall Corvin (which can be read here).

It was recorded on November 2, 1973 and aired a week later on November 9, 1973. Included among Van’s song choices are three that are known only among serious collectors: “I Shall Sing”, “Wild Side Of Life” (sometimes known as “Honky Tonk Angels”), and the ridiculously rare “Drumshambo Hustle”, a song bemoaning the business aspect of the music industry.
About 10 years ago I received a cassette tape of this performance from an old-time Van Morrison fan & collector from Belfast. As a serious collector, I had previously heard a portion of this set (about 20 minutes worth), but when I played this tape and found that there were additional songs that I hadn’t heard before, and in stunningly great sound quality, I was thrilled. Unfortunately, the interview segments were edited out, and the ending “piano intro” snippet hints that there may have been more of the show with Van on piano. There also appears a tape anomaly 20 seconds into “Wild Side Of Life”. These flaws aside, I think any Van Morrison fan and/or collector will be amazed at what they hear, as this tape represents the most complete, best sounding copy of this show I’ve heard. Enjoy!
