d1t07. Miles Runs the Voodoo Down

Notes:

– d1t07: This track is an absolute mess. The bass is so loud and distorted, you can’t even tell there is other music playing.

– d1t08:Digi pop at :23

– The sound on this is very distant. There really isn’t much sonic value to it. This would be a completists only source IMO. Great performance and a piece of history nonetheless. Thank you to the taper for capturing this moment regardless of the issues.

Notes:

From original text file by Milesian June 2005:

“Technical Note: During the transfer from DAT to hard drive the source DAT snapped. The portion remaining after the break was then copied to hard drive and 1:58 from the Miles Trees source was spliced in to complete the recording. Channels were swapped and pitch adjusted on the Miles Trees portion to minimize differences in acoustic character.”

– d1t02: ~5:39 rch pinned / lch some minor high freq noise, ~9:48 rch pinned / lch some minor high freq noise
– d1t05: from ~9:12 thru ~9:41 ~ 16khz carrier appears (not audible)
– d1t07 ~ 0:02 rch pnned / lch some minor high freq noise
– d1t08: ~0:14 two closely spaced discontinuites (maybe a few samples are missing); ~2:08 rch pinned for .2 seconds, lch some high freq noise; ~5:51 brief rch pop/glitch; 9:52 thru ~ 11:53 “hiss” level rises

General comments about source quality:

– source audio signal insigificant above 8kHz,
– hiss level unobtrusive compared to LMPP215
– Poster billed band as “Miles Davis Quintet” though 6 musicians performed
– “Credit to Peter Losin, http://www.plosin.com/” for lineup information

Notes from the original uploader:

– audio signal to ~ 10 khz

– stero recording with stong monoaural character

– most likely this is a pre-fm recording given the absence of hiss

– d1t03: brief skip at 11:40; cuts at end

– d1t04: some crackle at start, brief drop outs at 0:06, 0:09; fades out at end, unknown amount of music is missing

Notes from the original uploader:

– soundboard recording

– frequency response out to > 14khz with little hiss, nice mix, though as typical it seems some instruments (esp. bass) sound somewhat distorted

– sonically this is a very clear recording so folks who prefer excellent sound quality might want to grab this one

– d1t01: music starts without any warmup or tuning intro

– d1t02: ~5:20 might be a possible drop out that has been edited, causing recording to abruptly change

d1t03. I Fall in Love Too Easily > Sanctuary

Notes from the original uploader:

– A very nice sounding recording. Crisp and clean. This one I would vote in as a must have. No flaws to list!

– “The Davis Sextet opened for Neil Young and Crazy Horse and The Steve Miller Blues Band for two nights at the Fillmore East, March 6-7 (Friday-Saturday). There were two shows each night. Columbia recorded both nights, but this show remains unissued. This two-night gig is Wayne Shorter’s last as a member of the Sextet. (He did remain with Davis for a studio date on March 17.)” – Credit to Peter Losin, http://www.plosin.com/

– “Between these two shows Bill Graham brought in a Sabrett hot dog vendor off the street to feed the bands, the crew, and some members of the audience. – Credit to Peter Losin, http://www.plosin.com/

d1t06. The Theme

Notes from the original uploader:

– d1t01: Track starts mid song, music lost. There are multiple instances where the levels get very very hot and distort.

– d1t02: There is a slight glitch at 3:07

– d1t03: There are multiple instances where the levels get very very hot and distort.

– d1t04: There are multiple instances where the levels get very very hot and distort.

– d1t05: There are multiple instances where the levels get very very hot and distort. there are multiple other small drop outs present. At times, The left channel seems to fade in and out some.

– A decent source. The levels get a little hot in spots and there is a steady hum in the low end but still a worthwhile source though the oversaturation is a little hard on the ears at times. I would love to hear some of the other versions of this if anyone has them.

– Notes From Original Text: “This is almost the complete show, some of the beginning was missed originally, and the first couple of minutes had a lot of dropouts and sound problems. Thus, my version is slightly shorter than Losins because I had to lose some music to smooth out the problems during the very worst parts. The fade-in at the beginning was done by me. As usual, my track times do not match Losin. Enjoy the only live performance by this band,Jazzcdburner/Sweetnighter”
