Notes: This was my first Grateful Dead related show. I was a pretty little kid and we more or less snuck in
(OK, we convinced the ticket taker at the door to let us in by helping him clean up the stairs!). We also
found a backstage pass which got me backstage where I got ìthis closeî to Jerry (who I remember was
apparently … um…. ìtuning upî (shall we say 😉 in a broom closet I was standing against between sets.
Hey said ìHeyî to me as he went back to the stage ñ he had to since I was leaning up against the broom
Closet door trying to be unobtrusive. Youíll note that the second set is indeed notably more ìlivelyî kicking off with a monsterous ìDonít Let Go. î I remember as we were leaving, having to walk around rather large pools of vomit all over the green plastic floor covering that was protecting the floor of this gymnasium. Have no idea of the true source of this recording but it is no doubt recorded in the back of the gym up In the bleachers.

Thanks to The Jerry Site and Ryan Shriver for introducing me to Walter Keenan who provided a copy of his cassette, which I performed fairly major surgery on in ProTools and CoolEditPro. Numerous channel drop-outs were repaired to dual mono and a couple of ugly glitches were digitally spliced together, increasing the listenability and enjoyability of this show.

    quite a nice recording!

This is a very late-era “Wishing Chair” recording, including four of the infamous “Lost Songs” that had been intended for the band’s next record.

This is one of the final live recordings that were made prior to John Lombardo leaving the band (just 6 days later, on July 14). Strangely enough, at this show the band plays a unique version of a Robert Palmer song, “Johnny and Mary” – an interesting coincidence, since John would eventually go on to form his own band, called John & Mary.

10,000 Maniacs’ “The Wishing Chair” L.P. will celebrate its 30th anniversary this year (original release date – September 23, 1985). Since it seems apparent that the Maniacs are not being given the remaster / bonus tracks / box set treatment that they so richly deserve, I’ve decided to upload all of my 70+ live and rare 10,000 Maniacs recordings during the coming weeks. Although many of these recordings will be re-seeds of previous Dime torrents, a substantial number have never appeared on the Dime (and many others haven’t been shared since the Dime’s previous incarnation as “easytree.org” circa 2005).
