Nobody Sings Dylan Like Dylan, Vol. 12: Sad Eyed Ladies and Wanted Men (Version 2)

Download FLAC: Amazon Drive

Note for version 2: Well, that was quick. Apparently, the version of “Baby Blue” I included was officially released, so here’s a different, later one, followed by the same track list as before. Hopefully, this one will fly.

Original notes: OK folks, here’s the latest and greatest from the NSD Laboratories. I count seven new songs that have not appeared in previous volumes, and eight new artists. The rest, of course, are new combinations of ingredients we’ve used before. For those of you who’ve asked: I don’t know how many more volumes there will be–I’ll keep ’em coming til I run out of covers or time.

Here’s a repeat request from last time: can anyone get me a lossless version of Bruce Springsteen’s beautiful rendition of “Forever Young” from the John Hammond memorial show? I’d love to include it in a later volume of this series. And somebody out there (Persic, perhaps?) must have the John Wesley Harding-hosted KCRW special “Oh Merci!” from 1993–share it please!

That’s it for now. Please keep the suggestions and files coming! As always, thanks to the tapers, the original uploaders, the folks who’ve sent me recordings, the fine artists who’ve created cover artwork, and especially the performers and composer. Due to the many different sources, I am not including lineages. I have done nothing to the original files but normalize the levels and fade in and out on each track (using Cool Edit). Enjoy!

Hi everybody,

This is not the same remaster of Renaldo And Clara Soundtrack as i did some time ago. This is also from Les Kokay`s torrent, but source files are different, much better than the source i have used for my previous remaster.

This is what Les said : ” To the best of my knowledge, this stereo projector source has never circulated.
This is the full 4hr soundtrack spread over 3 CDs.
I didn’t track this and as I’ve left it without any changes from me; it is as I received it many years ago.
This is not the same source that I used to make my stereo soundtrack CD back in 2000.”

I have edited out most of the dialogue, just left few bits in. As for remastering i did pitch, phase and levell correction. Also did some EQ

Since most of the talking is out ( and some bits of not so interesting music ) this now fits on 2 CD`s

Another installment of Dylan arcana — or maybe this one is apocrypha. Two takes of “You Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere,” with McGuinn the dominant vocalist, and somebody with a vaguely Dylanesque vocal style seemingly audible from time to time, not so prominently. Might be Dylan. Could be Petty. Could be somebody in the band goofing around; members of Dylan’s NET bands have been said to do their own faux-Bob vocals at soundchecks. This is a fully realized arrangement, not just a let’s-try-this-out moment. I’m not aware of McGuinn playing this at any dates on the “Temples In Flames” tour (and maybe somebody has better info than I do) ; so this could have been a possible alternate for the Petty/McGuinn “RocknRoll Star” duet, or even the Dylan/McGuinn “Chimes Of Freedom”. Several folks whose opinions I respect don’t include this in their Dylan discographies, and they certainly had access to it — so that’s a few strikes against Bob performing here. On the other hand, the taper, or somebody near him, comments “That’s Dylan” as the song begins, so maybe they saw him onstage. Or just got the ID wrong. You make the call. The Queens of Rhythm provide some surprisingly convincing country harmonies.

Sound quality isn’t great, a bit distant, but certainly listenable.
