Comments:

Here is our recording from Neil’s Bluenotes tour from the newly opened
Palace in Auburn Hills, Michigan…about half hour or so from Detroit…75 miles
or so from Bay City, Mich. We had seats for the upper section, 1st row…however,
when we arrived they had that area curtained off. So we were allowed to go sit
anywhere we wanted. We went down somewhere near the soundboard, where we found an
area suitable for recording well. About 10 seconds before the intro, one of the
guards comes up to us and asks if we would like to move closer as there were plenty
of seats nearer the stage. We kindly let him know we were very happy seated where
we were at, and he left, I pushed record, missed the first few seconds of the
opening song. The band introductions were not recorded as we had to adjust the mics,
otherwise it’s complete. Recording came out well. Also, Joe Walsh with his red
guitar showed up for the last encore. Enjoy!

I don’t think this is too widely circulated. This is a nice recording, recorded from the balcony
near the soundboard. Apparently, Pegi Young was sitting less than 5 feet away from the hidden tape deck
which made flipping the tapes a little hairy.

This setlist is different than what’s listed in Ghosts On The Road, but matches a second, lesser quality master
made from near the stage, so I think this is correct. And yes, he played This Note’s For You twice in a row to
end the late show.

Contrast Clause: The late set of this show has been posted on Dime (Torrent #125275). However this is unique show for NY collectors with only 8 of the 20 different tracks played released on This Notes For You, 1 (I’m Going) released as a B side and 2 (Ain’t It the Truth and Don’t Take Your Love Away From Me”) on “Lucky Thirteen” – the latter with the Shocking Pinks. Leaving a whopping 9 tracks unreleased. So I think it is worth sharing the whole evening’s entertainment. It is also a lineage upgrade:

Audience Analogue Master>DAT(2 gen)>Hard Disk (via SPDIF)>Cool Edit 2000 (Resample to 44.1kHz)>CDR

Sound Quality is good for the time – I have a hazy recollection that the DAT I received was labelled as taper Richard Dubronsky or the like. Thanks to the taper and apologies if I have the name wrong!

Comments (12/27/06):

This run of shows at the Cocoanut Grove (11/2,3,4/87) was among the most fun I
ever had at Neil shows. The Grove is a great, small venue, with o.k. acoustics,
and right near the ocean. Lots of good times had, and nice to have 3 nights, of
two shows a piece!!!

I have early and late shows for each of the dates, and will post them all if there
is enough interest.
