  1. I’ve been collecting Neil Young shows since the mid 80’s, back when we traded cassette tapes. Same with Grateful Dead shows. In fact, I still have suitcases full of my tapes! I am astounded on a daily basis at the stuff you’ve got up here on MMC!! These early 73 shows with the Stray Gators are some of my favorite Neil shows. I had no idea he did multiple nights in certain cities. I’m really enjoying hearing shows again I haven’t heard in years, and also discovering other ones I never even knew were out there! I can always find folks to trade Dead shows with, but don’t know many other Neil fans that are as hardcore as me collecting this Time Fades Away era stuff. I still have a vinyl boot of the 74 Bottomline show. Wow what a gem! and it was here on your site recently that I learned that Neil was just there to see Ry Cooder play and then he was so pumped afterwords he played an impromptu set after Ry’s!! I always wondered why there weren’t more solo acoustic shows from 74 (well after all I did know he was busy on the road with CSN at that time).

In any case, Just wanted to share my thoughts.

As always, thank you Mat for sharing this great music with us!

    Best,

    Cate

    1. Thanks for the story. I started collecting tape (yes I’m old enough to have collected cassette tapes too – Maxell XLII for the world!) in the mid-1990s. I mostly did Grateful Dead and related because that’s all I knew existed. It wasn’t until years later I realized there were tapes of just about every band.

I’m happy you are enjoyng the Neil shows. I’ll try to find some from that era for you soon.
