From the original uploader:
This was the rehearsal show for the Autumn 1979 European leg of Lou Reedís ìThe Bellsî Tour, and even more significantly, this was a historic show for fans of Suzanne Vega.
Suzanne has repeatedly regaled audiences and interviewers alike with tales of a date who took her to her first rock concert, a 1979 Lou Reed perfomance.

Though she claims she was appalled by his on-stage behavior — swearing and flicking lit cigarettes into the audience — the show still impressed her: “Suddenly it hit me that I could write about things I had experienced without softening up the edges or apologizing for it or putting it in a nice package necessarily,” recalled Vega in the Los Angeles Times.

And this was the very show that gave Suzanne that revelation, made her a fan of Mr. Reed, and eventually influenced her composition of her most notable hit, “Luka” — two decades later, Suzanne admitted she “was listening to Lou Reed’s Berlin album on the day that I wrote ëLukaí, probably to sharpen and focus myself.”

05 Sister Ray [slows down / cuts out]

From the original uploader
This is a great recording! Excellent stereo sound…just a little wow and flutter (speed ‘wobble’) creeps in here and there (at it’s worst on the last couple of tracks on CD 2), and Sister Ray gets cut off. Overall it’s a magnificient recording for it’s time, or for any time for that matter – as good as many mixing desk or FM recording, and a great ‘feel’ to it. Forget the dry sound of some mixing desk and certain well known tapers uploads … this sounds like being there!

The date is slightly puzzling…according to doc it was 30th October, but other records suggest Lou played Philadelphia on that date. We wanted to get this online, and perhaps someone can help on the date? As you will hear it’s a great recording, and I’ve had upping this on my ‘to do’ list for a while, so here you are.

On the technical side, no audio processing was done : ODoc55 pointed out no PC was used for the transfer to disc. To get this onto Dime, using a PC was kind of essential, but I did no audio processing : aside from noting how precious some Lou fans can be about that, there was no need. The only work done was sorting out the track splits, they needed some tidying up, and that was done very carefully.

Dan Lampinski recorded over 100 concerts in the Providence/Boston area, mostly between 1974 and 1978. His earliest recordings were made with an internal microphone deck, and though they are somewhat lo-fi compared to his later work, some very great moments in rock history were captured for posterity. In late 1974 he bought a Sony TC-152SD tape recorder, a Sony ECM-99 stereo microphone, and began using Maxell cassettes. He was also fortunate enough to have a friend who provided excellent taping seats for many shows, resulting in high quality recordings. In 1977, he switched over to a Nakamichi 550 tape recorder, two Nakamichi CM-300 microphones, and continued using Maxell cassettes.

He recorded many of the major 70’s bands: Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Queen, Blue Oyster Cult, Frank Zappa, Jethro Tull, ELP, Kiss, Black Sabbath, The Who, Al Stewart, Alice Cooper, Jeff Beck, Bruce Springsteen, Supertramp, Jean-Luc Ponty, Moody Blues, Neil Young, The Faces, Rush, Rick Wakeman, Kansas, as well as several “under the radar” acts.

Since Dan never traded copies of his recordings, they are all essentially uncirculated. Some copies were made for friends, but these releases are the first time most of these recordings have ever seen the light of day, and are direct from his master cassettes. No EQ’ing has been done to any of the transfers. Feel free to EQ, matrix, patch, etc and re-post if you like, just give Dan credit for the original recording.

Dan was very meticulous about taking good care of his tapes and is very pleased that these recordings will now circulate among the trading community. Please honour his kindness and generosity by sharing these recordings freely.

The transfers are available as 16bit/44.1KHz flac files suitable for CD burning, and also as 24bit/96KHz flac files for those who prefer the higher resolution.

Always remember – the more generous you are with your music, the more it comes back to you.

CD 2

Heroin sounds very good here, and Oh Jim has an extended drum solo. Rock ‘n’ Roll is very funky too.

The CD-R I received this on had the sound considerably balanced to the right on CD 1, and significantly to the
left on CD 2, so some corrective work was carried out.
