Shows of the Day and Another Break

I have now reached my 4 TB limit on the Drive. Don’t worry, I’m not asking for money at this time. You all gave enough during my last begging that I can upgrade to 5 TB at any time.

I upgraded to 4 TB from 3 TB in late June. That means I added in an additional 1 TB of music in about five months. That’s a lot of shows in a small amount of time. When I was uploading MP3s, I had to convert the FLAC to MP3, add the MP3s to my iTunes, add in the show name, song titles, etc., then upload them along with the FLACs to the cloud and then (usually the next morning) post them to the Cafe. All of that was pretty time-consuming, so I was usually only adding 3-5 shows to Amazon per day.

When I dropped MP3s, that number went up as I no longer had to bother converting them. But doing individual posts was still time-consuming, and I tried not to get too far ahead of myself in terms of what I was uploading and what I had time to post. But I was still uploading maybe 10 shows per day.

Now that I’m no longer doing individual posts, my uploading of shows has increased significantly. Hence uploading 1 TB in five months. I suspect that time frame would decrease even more next time. Which is why I am taking yet another break.

My concern is that if I upgrade to 5TB now I would hit that goal in just a few months at which point I would have to ask for more money. Then a few months later I’d have to ask for more money. Then a few months later…well you get the picture. The amount of money needed for each asking, er begging, would increase. If I’m asking for hundreds of dollars every few months I figure at some point you all are gonna get tapped out.

At some point I’m going to have to figure out a long term solution, but for now I figure I can take a break since I’m paid up on the 4TB until next summer, let you guys catch up a little more by digging into the archives, then restart in a few weeks.

I’ll actually stay pretty busy during this “break.” I will continue organizing my shows and putting them on my list. I feel like I’ve been saying that for ages, but when you have thousands of shows you’ve never put on your list, it takes awhile.

I will also slowly move my way though the Amazon Drive deleting zipped up shows and uploading the same shows as unzipped folders. It annoys the organizer in me that I now have both zipped shows and unzipped ones.

I think I will periodically go back through the old posts that are still sitting in private mode and clean them up then make them “public” so that you guys can see them. I know I’ve moved away from doing individual posts for each show, but it seems a pity to have all those old posts locked away in private mode. When I do this I expect anyone who receives my e-mails will get one for those old posts. I hope that doesn’t become confusing.

Comment
From the compiler:

THE OTHER ANTHOLOGY OF AMERICAN FOLK MUSIC
4 Discs, 101 Tracks, by 75 artists, culled from approx 40 to 50 hours
of source material. No tracks over lap the original 84 song
anthology, some songs do , but they are interpreted here by diffrent
artists. I didn’t take the recently released volume 4 on REVNANT
Records into consideration , there are 2 or 3 songs that overlap that
collection. All but 2 songs here were recorded between 1926 – 1936 .
The original anthology spanned 1927-1932. I have tried to maintain
the diversity and element of suprise that makes the original
anthology so shocking to new ears. I know I at very least maintained
or exceeded the quality of performances. This collection is decidedly
Blusier with more spirituals Hallellujah! The only style lacking in
comparison with the original Anthology of AFM is the Cajun music,
it’s never been a personal favorite of mine, and I don’t really have
any to offer. Lastly, I didn’t group the songs as Harry Did, I just
tried to mix it up and keep it flowing.

The Begging, Part III

Update:  Wow, you guys are crazy generous.  The link has been up for less than two hours and I’ve already received about $400 in donations.  That is more than the amount I needed to I’ve now removed the link.  Thank you so very much.

You all overwhelmingly voted to upgrade the Amazon Drive now rather than later (The total tally was 71 votes for upgrading now, 6 votes to wait until January and 5 votes to wait until I’ve reposted everything). So now comes the begging. If you would like to donate to the site please click here for the (link removed, goal met).

I think that should work. I pretty much only use Paypal for this purpose so I never remember how to actually ask for donations. I actually still have $137.77 in my Paypal account from the last begging. That means I only need $102.19 for the upgrade. The previous two times I’ve begged you all have generously given and I’ve met my goal in less than 24 hours. In fact you’ve always given more than I needed which is why I still have money in the account.

If you give more than I need this time I will continue to leave the money in the Paypal account. If there is enough I’ll likely use the excess to pay for The Midnight Cafe url and the pro-Wordpress account, etc. I will only use the money for things that support the blog.

Some of you have asked if there is an address you can mail money or checks to, or if there is any other way to support this site. I so appreciate your generosity, but I fully expect those donating to Paypal will more than meet my needs.

Thank you so much everybody. I am always amazed at your generosity and thoughtfulness.
