MiniDisc Masters > CD-R > DIME FLAC 2015

Contrast Clause: This recording was made by a different taper seated in a different location (balcony rather than floor) using different recording equipment than the recording I previously uploaded of the same show:
http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?returnto=%2Faccount-cp.php&id=513344

Uploader’s Notes:
This show was recorded by someone who I consider to be Rapid City’s biggest Neil Young and Bob Dylan fan. He used a MiniDisc recorder, made a set of cd-rs for me…and now some fifteen years later I have uploaded the FLAC files here on DIME for you to enjoy. This recording is significantly brighter than the one I made with the core-sound mics. This version was recorded from the balcony which may have also factored into the difference in sound.

Compliler’s comments: “I must confess I have been putting off doing a Best Of 2000 compilation for quite some time as I thought I would have trouble filling 2 CDs, let alone 5. Well, I have finished it and am quite happy with it. I must state now that this compilation ends on July 6, 2000-the last date with the Johhny Scott band and the start of the assault to my senses by Linda Gail Lewis and all that entailed. When I did the Best Of 2001 I included a few numbers with her in the band-but by that time some of the band proficiency issues had been sorted out. I don’t know when Van had decided to go this route but 2000 contained a great many uninspired shows-but there are some true gems in here. At least we still had the horn section-which is a big thing to me. Another bonus for me was my vast choice of versions of Philosopher’s Stone and It’s All In The Game-2 of my favorite songs. Philosopher’s Stone was performed 15 times and Game no less than 32 times in the period before Linda Gail So we have 3 Philospher’s and 4 Game and 3 Man’s World tossed in as well because it also is among my favorites-2 with Farlowe-1 solo

Show Notes (thanks to Five Horizons):
The first homecoming show. In ‘Long Road’ Ed sings, “And the skies are always grey…” Ed also mentions that sometimes it’s nice to play a show with your house key in your pocket. He later talks about how the typical Seattle weather seemed to follow them around the tour, mentioning Phoenix, Las Vegas, San Diego. ‘Crown of Thorns’ (once again, to everyone’s surprise) is introduced as “a song that’s older than me.” Ed and Jeff were playing this game all night, they have been doing all these jumps in tandem for the past couple of shows, but tonight they kept trying to psych each other out and pretend one was going to jump, but then they wouldn’t, and start laughing. Someone had brought a huge “VOTE BUSH” banner and hung it from the 200 level; it was removed by two industrious fans before PJ took the stage. Between ‘DTE’ and ‘Insignificance’ Ed acknowledges the previous existence of the banner and said that he couldn’t believe it, and that “Just for tonight, I hope they took them out back and roughed them up a little.” The members of Supergrass were brought out and thanked, and Gary and Ed trade verses on ‘Timeless Melody.’ WARNING – X-rated notes ahead: Afterward, Ed says, “I have a bigger cock than Flea and Patrick Ewing combined, but I don’t want to brag.” Mike illustrates this by holding his hands out to give us a visual. (This was referencing a comment Flea made earlier about how he heard that [new Seattle Sonic] Patrick Ewing had the biggest cock in Seattle, except that now he was in town.) April Cameron and Justine Foy are brought out (with hugs from Ed) to perform the string arrangement for ‘Parting Ways.’ After “Parting Ways,” Jeff grabs Ed’s wine bottle, takes a LONG swig, and then hands it over to Matt, who does likewise. ‘Ledbetter’ is lavishly tagged with ‘Little Wing’ (and there is a Jimi Hendrix photo, torn out of a magazine, taped to Mike’s amp). Really strong, powerfully played show. On the setlist but not played: ‘In Hiding’ and ‘The Kids Are Alright.’

This is being distributed by blackredyellow.com in tandem with pj.sidewalkcrusaders.com, and is part of a series of the best Pearl Jam shows in existance.
