This is an excellent-quality FM broadcast of a complete “In My Tribe” concert. The setlist is fairly standard for the era,
although the inclusion of a short piano-based original song informally referred to as “After Talking to Myself” is noteworthy.
In most other respects, this recording is very similar to the commonly-circulating Sadlers Wells (London) show from July 1988.
10,000 Maniacs’ “The Wishing Chair” L.P. will celebrate its 30th anniversary this year
(original release date – September 23, 1985). Since it seems apparent that the Maniacs
are not being given the remaster / bonus tracks / box set treatment that they so richly
deserve, I’ve decided to upload all of my 70+ live and rare 10,000 Maniacs recordings
during the coming weeks. Although many of these recordings will be re-seeds of previous
Dime torrents, a substantial number have never appeared on the Dime (and many others
haven’t been shared since the Dime’s previous incarnation as “easytree.org” circa 2005).

I recorded this several years ago. The reason I never shared it is the big “hum” and other noise in this recording, especially in the Intro DJ and the first 2 minutes and 2 seconds of Eggs And Sausage. I tried to clean it, but wasn’t able to remove the “hum” without damaging music. The interfering noise reduces during the course of the show.
Om 2016-12-26 there was a rebroadcast. Unfortunately I was driving home from work at the beginning of the broadcast. I drove as fast as possible but only managed to record (this time digital) the last 2,5 songs (not added to this upload).
In the intro Hubert tells us he doesn’t know who recorded this. He was present at the show but he had the flu. He was covered with a blanket because of the fever. Two days later the flu was over. He calls it “The healing force of music”.

7.5 ips on quarter inch two track stereo 1.5 mil
acetate scotch audio tape); when the nrps song
louisiana lady was played on the scully tape deck in
the radio studio during the interview, the scotch
audio tape was moved to a similar scully tape deck in
the kppc-fm production studio down the hall to
continue taping the live broadcast; music played from
lps on turntables was scoped by stopping the tape
during the broadcast to make sure that the entire
interview would fit on our only blank tape available
at the time on a sunday afternoon.

Soundboard and radio broadcast tapes (WMMS) available – good show. It’s interesting to note that this show was remastered by Bruce’s
management and given to KSAN in San Fransico who broadcast it as a replacement for a scheduled Winterland rebroadcast. This must
have happened in 1979 sometime. The remastered show has fantastic stereo seperation and coupled with the fact that this is a good show in the first place, it has to rank as one of the best of the available shows in 1978. – Released on LP and CD. The most recent (and best quality) CD releases of this show are”Agora Night” by Crystal Cat and “Just In Time For Summer”
