Comments: Long show. O u t s t a n d i n g audience recording – Vasseur’s recordings are among the best 90s JGB aud’s that circulate and this recording is definitely among the very best of those. Just a couple of minor flaws due to the “real world” – getting bumped/brushed and balloon pops periodically throughout the show. In a few instances, I applied – 2 dB attenuation to the extreme examples under maximal waveform magnification to prevent damage to speakers/tympanic membranes using SF 6.

* d1t01 – 09:30 loud bump/pop -attenuated.
* d1t04 couple of times at the end of the track during the space between songs.
* weird sound at the beginning/mics getting bumped into at beginning of d1t05.

Thanks to J.Powell for providing the CDR source.

* This does not appear that it is from a cassette source.
If so, then it was the most time accurate tape deck in
the entire world. My guess is it was recorded onto DAT.

Thanks to the Lossless Legs Community (www.shnflac.net)
for getting me these 2 spectacular sources. Both of these
recordings are top notch. The AUD source is perhaps one
of the best AUDs I’ve heard from the Warfield. I am very
pleased with the results of this project. The 2 recording
mixed very well. Jerry’s notes literally linger in the
air for what seems an eternity. The 5.1 mix leaves you
standing front row at the bar rail. Complete with Jerry’s
guitar floating by as hoot’s and cat calls add to the
experience. Jerry’s tone is very nice and the AUD did a
great job at capturing how things sounded that night in SF.

Tech Notes

FLAC/SHNs were decoded to wave. Wavmerge was used to reassemble
the tracks back to 1 long wave. CEP2.0 was used to align &
synch both of the sources. SF8.0 used to adjust the volume
for the front, center, surround and LFE channels. SF8.0 was
used for the hard limiting on the front and the EQ setting on
the center and LFE shannels. Surcode CD Pro DTS was used to
encode to DTS.

Center
Mixed to Mono -6db D’EQ SBD

Surround
Left Channel AUD
Right Channel AUD

Sub/LFE
Mixed to Mono -5db D’EQ SBD

Notes

The SBD had somewhat low levels with the exception of the
spiking drums. I preformed some hard limiting to try and
contain things a bit better. +3db with a max amplitude of
-.1db.

The SBD had several pops and clicks. Especially noticeable
during “My Sisters and Brothers” but they were located
throughout. using zoom an pencil tool I was able to redraw
and remove 30 or 40 of these pops without disturbing the
music.

The AUD source was a bit overwhelming in the 5.1 mix. While
I usually leave the levels alone, this time I mixed the AUD
into the rear channels at -3db. In my experience louder
rear channels is an undesirable effect.

Notes from patch source pertaining to “To Lay Me Down”:

– crowd talking noticeable during To Lay Me Down
– I believe the occasional “cooing noise” heard during To Lay Me Down
and some other tunes might be from a notorious woman that attended
many Dead and JGB shows in the Bay Area. She would parody “sexual
orgasm type sounds” in response to the music.

Thanks to TOL for the patch source.

Notes from the original uploader:

– d1t07 To Lay Me Down: AUD source supplies this song in it’s entirety.

– d1t08 Dark Hallow: AUD source supplies first notes of this song

– d1t09 Babe it Ain’t No Lie: is only 41 seconds long. It is clipped
at the beginning and the end. This is missing on the AUD.

– d1t10 Ripple: cuts in missing the first few lines. This is missing
on the AUD.

– d2t10 I Know You Rider: Strange sound at 4:49, sounds like someone
might have bumped a mic stand.

– d3t05 Drums: from 5:18 – 5:34 and from 7:06 – 7:08 there is an
overdriven drum that creates a rumble.

– d2 and d3 are seemless, the split was made at a large gap of
just audience between Drums and Space.

– d4t01 Space: static from 3:40 – 3:44

– d4t02 Truckin’: squeek at 3:35

Also a big thanks goes out to the guys and girls at SHN Traders for
