I was given the whole of Gabriel collection on tapes from the good friend MBT the other day. He used to be an avid Gabriel
collector back in the 80¥s but he had also attended many concerts in the Paris area even before, like for example one of
the Olympia gigs from September 1980 where he could even get Gabriel¥s tambourine which he used to throw in the air at the
end of Solsbury Hill.

A week ago, I was at his place and we were planning to go and eat a nice indian restaurant. We drove with my car in the
outskirts of Paris. I had asked him to provide me with a few tapes from his collection to transfer. But when we came back from
the restaurant, he simply handed over to me his whole collection (mostly covering the 1977-1994 period asking me to look at
it and transfer those tapes I would find interesting.

WOW! Another monster task to do. I obviously started from the first tour and found many gems, in particular from the french tour.
MBT used to be an active trader with other fellow french traders, so I guess that his collection from there could be something
of interest. Plus he used to record on the radio any sort of interviews or special about Gabriel so I do not doubt that I will
find some treasures.

I do not know if we can label this one as “treasure” but I never saw this one circulating and, despite the quite poor quality,
this is a nice capture of PG¥s first tour. Possibly of the the best performances musicwise by the band. You can clearly hear
the audience on fire keep asking for encores. At the end four encores were played that night. Peter addresses the audience in
french and greets Paris, so there is no doubt this comes from the Olympia which, by the way, is a rather shitty venue to record
shows despite being of the temples of rock music in Paris.

Full set including Animal Magic and one Genesis encores which was not played that often during that leg of the tour.
Somehow for completists only, but aren¥t we all completists here at The Movement???

This is a third generation recording of an excellent early Game tour gig. The quality is superb, and surely an upgrade of all previous versions. Unfortunately the last track is TYMD, but at least we have most of the concert. Save Me cuts out at the end, so we’re missing Now I’m Here as well. It’s awesome to hear Freddie sing Need Your Loving Tonight like the record version, because his voice was in such good shape early on in the tour. For that song alone, this bootleg is worth obtaining, but the entire show has Freddie in magical voice. Brian’s guitar solo is a bit long and wandering, but he really does create some pretty things this night. Overall, this show is one of the very best.

Originally shared by The Real Wizard on QZ. Here are his notes:

This is a great copy of the Zurich audience tape. Thanks to Leo for the tape, kindly supplied by Davide Traversi, head of the Italian Queen fan club “We Will Rock You.”

This tape runs through Sheer Heart Attack. This show often circulated without the second encore, as in this case. The last three tracks are patched in from another version (certainly the same audience source), and sound almost identical to the rest of the show.

My notes:
This is the best (to my knowledge) version of the recording of the first show from the 1980 European tour, which is absolutely an astonishing tour.
The band is on fire.
This first night is a great show too even though they’re not yet in the shape they’d be in by the time they’d hit Birmingham, London, Brussels,…
That said, if someone has a copy of the Strassbourg December 16, 1980 show or a decent copy from the last night (Munich December 18, 1980)…;-)
