This radio programme is best known for rebroadcasting Work from the RTL radio recording of ThÈ‚tre des Champs ElysÈes, 8e, Paris, France, 23 January 1970. Often overlooked, however, is the fact that it additionally features concert excerpts from 1971 and 1974. The June 1974 recording of Money (track 11) is particularly nice to have because it does not appear to be available elsehwere.

Also of interest are interviews with David Gilmour and Nick Mason that demonstrate their French language skills. The other major contributor to the discussion is More and Obscured By Clouds Director Barbet Schroeder who looks back on his work with the band.

You may spot that side B is louder than A – the tape came to me that way. Overall this is a very enjoyable documentary, which gets better when your ears adjust to the medium wave reception.

Notes: From a “millionth generation” cassette bought in Argentina some 17 years ago by our friend Alejandro. For some reason this recording has not been heavily circulated, and is shrouded in mystery. We have no legitimate doubts as to the authenticity of this recording. It appears to be from a working set of demo tapes that were used as the actual blueprint for The Final Cut -the last album that Pink Floyd would release with Roger Waters in the lineup. In some places the difference between this and the actual release are subtle, and in other places, the differences are quite stark, changing the overall tone of some of the meanings inferred from the actual release. We won’t be listing all of the differences here, so you can enjoy your own personal exploration of this work in progress.

Free Range Pigs is releasing this volume for it’s historical significance. While the sound quality is not “disappointing”, the recording does “show it’s age” in some places. We’re not exactly sure, but it sounds as though this was recorded in a professional studio, so it is very likely that somewhere in this big world, a sonically superior copy exists.

Credits: Jim Canale and Free Range Pigs would like to thank the following people for their contributions to this effort:

Alejandro Gibaut for graciously providing the Source Recording.
The Pentagon Pig for providing Quality Assurance Services.
Aleksi Manninen for providing the Cover Art.’

2007 ALS comments: Special thanks to the one and only Professor Goody for advising on the proper pitch. Also smoothed tape flip transitions and retracked.

2013 edit by john234: I split “Good Year For The Roses” and “Colour Of The Blues” into separate tracks (aligned on SB, etc). Flac tags added with Foobar.

Torrent history:
– first posted on Dime by ALS in October 2007.
– one additional track-splitting, and reposted by john234 in January 2013.

After download, minor adjustments to tags using Mp3tag, and generated new md5 and ffp files using TLH.
