From the original uploader:

Big thanks to Stepmo for the original upload and Spituchi for the-cover art (Thanks Enlight)

Additional comments(OEB): A nice compilation of various songs from the Golden heart tour.

The sound quality varies. Tracks 1-4are radio broadcasts with very good sound,
the other tracks are audience recordings.

Nice to have for the rarely played songs.

Enlight note:

Nice mixure of encores and rarely played songs during the 1996 Golden Heart tour.

The four tracks are from the “Hamburg Encores” a radio broadcast with perfect sound and four great versions these are.

Gravy version of “No CAn DO”

Lovely and sentimental version of “Last exit to Brooklyn” especially when Mark joines in with his guitar. (shivers down the spine)

“Vic and Ray” was played totaly different during this part of the tour than later ,e.g. more drums and a raw guitar sound.

One of my favourite song “Portobello belle” is absolutely great with the violin included and offcourse appreciated by the Irish crowd.

Great to hear Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings doing backing vocals on “Water of Love” (24th May 1996).

I love this blog. For years now I’ve got to share great music with cool people. There are always tons of great conversations going on and many of you are way more knowledgeable than me so I’m constantly learning new information. From time to time various folks send me awesome shows to listen to and post. We’ve even had a few folks who’ve sent me so much stuff I just let them go ahead and share directly to the blog.

On a couple of occasions I’ve been lucky enough to get something rare – maybe a newly remastered show, or something only recently circulating, or something straight from a taper.

Today is one of those times. A few weeks back someone sent me a message saying he’d taped a bunch of shows many years ago and was looking for a place to share them. One of those shows was an Allman Brothers gig that he thought was both killer in performance and in the quality of his tape. Would I be interested in sharing it?

Of course I was. Due to my lousy internet and various other complications its taken us weeks to get everything in order, but here we are, mostly. The very last complication comes from the band. ABB is cool with tapers and traders, but they are kind of old school about it. Their official policy states that you can tape shows and share them, but only via pre-internet methods. They don’t want torrents, they don’t want digital downloads.

I have no idea why this is, my guess would be it has something to do with the anonymous nature of the internet and how grabbing something from a torrent doesn’t develop personal relationships like the old trading days did. Whatever the reason I’m planning to follow those rules and won’t be posting the show here.

The show does sound amazingly good all things considered. The taper did a great job of capturing it. It is also a very excellent performance. I’m not a huge ABB fan, but the boys were smokin’ this night. As far as I can tell no one else taped this show that night, and until now its not been in circulation. I know the taper has given it to a couple of other folks recently to help with the mastering or whatever so they might have shared it, but it really does seem to be a rather rare treat.

Notes: * This is commonly listed as DSBD. To my ear, this sounds like a
mix of board and audience mics. In particular, a pair of mics
are bumped at 63:36 (disc 1) – note the voices and right-to-left
scuffle. Also note at 8:27 (disc 2) somone says, “Chuck, watch
the fence”. This is probably one of the tapers. The board feed
is much louder than the audience mics in the mix, so I can see
why it may have been mislabeled so easily. Call it whatever you
like – it sounds wonderful.

Fixes: a few digital glitches removed- d1 16:06, 48:43, 63:54
it’s almost 100% now. 🙂
first 30 seconds of d1 was about -6dB on right – corrected.
(not a perfect fix, but a bunch better.)

Geetarz Comments:
Okay, we’re talking “essential”, right? After the success of the late 1980s and early 1990s – especially “Unplugged” – EC was finally free to pursue his passion, blues! After testing the waters with some “all blues” nights at the Royal Albert Hall, and then the mixed blues/pop/rock sets from 1993, in 1994 it was time to jump in all the way. After a long summer arena tour with a setlist consisting only of his favorite blues numbers, in early November Clapton set out on a mini-tour of not arenas, not sheds, but small clubs – the places where this music was born, and meant to be played. The first three nights were also notable, as on November 7/8/9 they took place at the Fillmore, in San Francisco, and were recorded and filmed for a movie by acclaimed director Martin Scorcese. This night, the first of the three night run, was recorded on videotape by the crew so that they could plan their camera moves and “blocking” for the remaining two nights. The videotape source has been available to collectors in varying quality for years, and has been used as the source for several boots, perhaps the most notable of which is “Blues From the Heart” (Parrott / Red Robin). The folks at 3BR obtained access to a very low generation, much cleaner source than used for “Blues From the Heart”, and after a bunch of work, released the result as “Blues At the Fillmore” for fans. Even if you already have a copy of this title, this may be a nice upgrade for you, direct from the masters with known lineage.
