10,000 Maniacs – Minneapolis, MN (04/19/88)

10,000 Maniacs (Natalie & Rob acoustic)
Let It Be Records (in-store appearance)
Minneapolis, MN
1988-04-19

Source: audience recording > ? > cassette received in trade > recorded to hard drive > CoolEdit
(track separations) > burned to CDR > extracted from CDR using iTunes > FLAC > you

Sound quality: B

Tracks:

  1. What’s the Matter Here? (acoustic)
  2. Don’t Talk (acoustic)
  3. A Campfire Song (acoustic)
  4. Scorpio Rising (acoustic)

Description:

This is an audience recording of Natalie and Rob performing a short acoustic set (either minimally amplified, or entirely unamplified) at Let It Be Records in Minneapolis. If you’ve ever wondered what an acoustic version “Scorpio Rising” sounds like, this is probably your one and only chance to find out.

10,000 Maniacs’ “The Wishing Chair” L.P. will celebrate its 30th anniversary this year (original release date – September 23, 1985). Since it seems apparent that the Maniacs are not being given the remaster / bonus tracks / box set treatment that they so richly deserve, I’ve decided to upload all of my 70+ live and rare 10,000 Maniacs recordings during the coming weeks. Although many of these recordings will be re-seeds of previous Dime torrents, a substantial number have never appeared on the Dime (and many others haven’t been shared since the Dime’s previous incarnation as “easytree.org” circa 2005).

Enjoy!

Description:

This is an excellent-quality FM broadcast of a complete “In My Tribe” concert. The setlist is fairly standard for the era,
although the inclusion of a short piano-based original song informally referred to as “After Talking to Myself” is noteworthy.
In most other respects, this recording is very similar to the commonly-circulating Sadlers Wells (London) show from July 1988.

Nicely packaged 8CD boxset contains the entirety of Eric Clapton’s
1988 tour of Japan. Special guests on this tour also included (*)
Mark Knopfler on guitar and (**) Elton John on piano.

This release is taken from the same recording as “Wonderful Monday
Night” (Rothmans RM 005/006) but is EQ’d and mastered differently.
In the end, it will probably fall to personal preference which
version suits you best!
