In 2008 Wilco did a run in Chicago where they played every song they had officially released plus a few extras like some of the stuff they did with Billy Bragg on the Mermaid Avenue sessions. Pretty much every night was epic with them playing about 30 songs a show. I posted the run in a low quality MP3 format ages ago, but it got deleted by Mediafire or whatever. Thanks to the Owl and Bear I now have the entire run in FLAC format. There are also multiple sources for each show and I’ll be posting those as well. I decided to put the various sources into one post with notes on their details.

I’m also going to comment on which source I think is better for each show, but with the caveat that I haven’t had time to listen to every note from every show and every source. My judgment will come from a few tracks through my computer speakers. Your mileage may very. I will however include one song in MP3 format to download as a way for you all to listen and make your own choices.

What a fantastic show! I had the pleasure of attending this one and it’s easily in the top 3 shows I have seen at Red Rocks over the years, somewhere around 150 shows that would be. ( another one of my top 3’s will be posted under Stevie Ray Vaughan later today). While I am not a big fan of the Walking into Clarksdale material they did this night, the revisiting of the old Zep standards were great! How Many More Times is a beast, I highly suggest cranking that one in particular LOUD.

Anyway there had been a “good” recording of this one floating around since about a year after the show, the problem with that one was the last 3 tracks had some serious digi drop outs and static throughout, I am happy to announce this version, from whotraders master copy, is not only static free, but a great recording to boot (pun intended).

extensive notes from the taper / original uploader are included hope you all enjoy it!

CSHEB (dpa4061) > Zefiro Inbox > Sony D100 > 44k dats from 5th row at right balcony at level of right hanging speakers

Transfer 11/7/11: 44k dat>midiman delta dio 2496> cooledit2000> wav> flac; cooledit2000 used to raise levels 20% and cut tracks

Flaws: missing first few seconds of 2nd set as they surprised most by starting before the curtain was raised; pause/cut near end of d3t3 in the crowd noise awaiting the encore

Notes: The dats were treed shortly after the show on datheads. In comparison to shnid=8980, this has a fuller warmer sound and that is brighter. (You may need to have a good stereo and play it loud to notice). This has an extra 10 seconds of the beginning of China Cat than that has.
