Show Notes (thanks to fivehorizons):
Ed starts the show by arriving onstage via skateboard. ‘Immortality’ is renamed by people at the show as “Matt Fuckin’ Cameron” due to his stellar work on this number. Ed notes, “… we’re on our way to Philadelphia tomorrow … and we haven’t played there in a long time. We’re going to have to get out of here early to be sure we get there in time … it’s a long drive.” The crowd boos and Ed laughs and continues, “I’m just fuckin’ with you. You like to be fucked with, right?” ‘My City Was Gone’ is by the Pretenders, who are from Ohio (Akron to be precise), and is a song about Cleveland. After ‘Black,’ Ed mentions that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is in Cleveland: “Earlier this evening, I know you’ve got a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame…we drove by it, I don’t know who runs the place, but…those people who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones…” Jeff interrupts, saying: “And where’s the fucking Iggy exhibit, goddamn it!” Ed chuckles: “So what I was gonna say, was, it’s right by the airport, but we’re a lot closer tonight, having Iggy Pop here, standing right here … let’s just say next time we play here, it could be a year, maybe two…we hope, if it happens… if Iggy’s not in yet, after the show, we’re all gonna go down there and blow the place up…speaking of the hall of fame [he holds up a sign saying ‘Baba’] – the WHO!” and the band busts into ‘Baba O’Riley.’ [The Stooges, Iggy’s first band, were recently nominated to the HOF, but did not get in.] ‘Wishlist’ ends with the “radio song” verse, but instead of saying “I guess it never stops” he says “I guess it has to stop”. Jeff comes out for ‘Yellow Ledbetter’ wearing a Cleveland Cavaliers jersey with Shawn Kemp’s name and uniform number on the back.

NOTES from the original uploader:

I’m Not Positive, but sounds like SBD Recording

The “Come Together: Jon Bon Jovi & Friends” benefit concert was organized by the Long Branch Police Department, The Asbury Park Press, and FPI Concerts, along with Jon Bon Jovi. The concert was to honor slain Long Branch police officer Sgt. Patrick King and raise money for the Sgt. Patrick King Memorial Fund to provide for his family. King, 45-year-old father of two young boys, was fatally shot on 20 Nov 1997 by a fugitive who had vowed to kill himself and a police officer rather than be captured and returned to jail.

20 musicians with ties to the Jersey shore music scene answered Jon Bon Jovi’s call, including Bruce Springsteen, Patti Scialfa and several members of the then-disbanded E Street Band (Clarence Clemons, Danni Frederici, Patti Scialfa, Little Steven, and Max Weinberg), Southside Johnny, Bobby Bandiera, and Richie Sambora among others. Actor Danny DeVito was the event’s MC.

This was a near-reunion of the fabled E Street Band and Bruce’s first full-length electric gig following the acoustic: The Ghost Of Tom Joad Solo Acoustic Tour. Springsteen spent much of (or maybe all) the night onstage, singing or playing guitar only.

Loud, Live Raw and Rockin’

I upped this on Dime a long time ago, and now on the eve of the 25th Byron Bay Blues and Roots Festival, it’s time to share it again. This show was recorded for broadcast by ABC National FM, and a truncated performance was aired soon after.

This version, however, is the full set in glorious pre-FM sound. It was copied from the masters (multis?) onto CDR by a well known Melbourne guitarist (who shall remain nameless, although I will say he’s a real Beast) during a session at the ABC studios. In this version Buddy Miller is loud and in-your-face in the left channel, much more prominent than on the broadcast set, so I suspect that The Beast tweaked the levels before making his CDR.

This is a copy of those CDR’s and it is a great show. Enjoy!

Show Notes (thanks to Five Horizons/TwoFeetThick):
Excellent show with the opening songs totally rocked out. Band looks really happy and playing great. ‘Oceans’ is a beautiful opener and ‘In Hiding’ is one of the finest versions played. ‘Nothingman’ is introduced as a song about a man who “not only couldn’t change the world … he couldn’t even take care of himself.” ‘Institutionalized’ is a Suicidal Tendencies cover (“I’m not crazy, you’re the one who’s crazy … institution.”) ‘Fuckin’ Up’ is a total surprise! Great crowd.
