I always thought Ken Kesey/Merry Pranksters/Grateful Dead were the first but as podcast “A History of Rock Music in 500 Songs” always reminds us “There IS NO first” so on that note it turns out the Charlatans (with future ‘I Scare Myself’ Dan Hicks tho he was performing early versions of that song in ’65) were performing with light shows, projectors, and lotza Owlsley LSD way out there (!!!) in Virginia City, Nevada at the Red Dog Saloon a full six months before the first Acid Test!

That’s a cool story, thanks for sharing. Now that I think about it, it makes perfect sense that acid freaks would throw parties and share the stuff with friends and strangers.
