My silver CD > EAC > WAV > FLAC
I haven’t had a chance to listen to this so I’m not sure how much overlap there is between this and “Oh Mercy” that I posted awhile back.
Ah, I’m doing a little jig here because now the downloads are working perfectly for me with the Amazon method – quick, easy, no problems. And this comp is excellent – I did also pick up the “Oh Mercy” outtakes comp, and this does have most of the exact same outtakes, but has some that weren’t on the other comp. So for us obsessives, it’s worth having both. 🙂 Thanks again!
I’m so glad its finally working for you.
I figured this one had some of the same stuff as the other, but was hoping there would be some extras too.
His best album in the twenty-plus years between “Desire” and “Time Out of Mind”.
The main issue with this wonderful material is picking your poison. There is a lot of inherent hiss on the source tape for all these recordings. You either choose to have it ‘ de-noised’ like the Godfather ‘Mercy On Us’ rel which obviously cuts some top end from the sound, or you go for full frequency, dynamic warts ‘n’ all such as the Midnite Beat’ release. I’ve not heard this particular rel, so i’m not aware which camp it is in.
ps allegedly much of this material was from rehearsal sessions, recorded acoustically rather than a full isolated close miked trad studio setup. This might explain both the increased background noise and the wonderful atmospheric nature of the recordings. I don’t know whether it is related or relevant but if anybody has seen the original promo vid fro ‘Most of the Time’ (which featured a unique live ‘take’) it gives an idea of the way the studio setup might have been.
seems there is a useful review of this partcular release at bobs boots
