Shows of the Day: May 30, 2023

Happy Jerry Wednesday to everybody. I hope you enjoy it.

I also hope some of you have been enjoying my old adventures in France. It is funny to me because I haven’t read those old posts since I wrote them over 18 years ago. Some posts bring up wonderful memories. Other posts I don’t remember at all.

Reading them now, with many more years under my belt, and a whole lot more world-traveling experience, I sound very young, very naive, and I seem to complain a lot. At the time I didn’t feel like I was really experiencing culture shock, but looking back I can see that I clearly was. I think back then I thought culture shock was something much more overwhelming – something that would bring me to tears every day or keep me curled up under the covers. But that isn’t me. I always get out of bed and do my best to plow ahead.

But reading these old posts I can see how I was being overwhelmed almost every day by all the differences in our cultures. Certainly, the language barrier was difficult.

I’m almost embarrassed by some of the posts. But I also realize that I wasn’t writing to anyone reading this now. I was writing to a handful of friends and family members. I was writing in a familiar way to people I knew. I was often trying to be funny and sarcastic, which comes off to me now as whiny and annoying.

Anyway, I do hope you are enjoying the posts, even if I do sound like a dumb little kid lost in the big world of baguettes.

Does anyone know the difference between a Legion of Mary show and just a Jerry & Merl show? Was there a lineup difference at this time? Or were they actually billed differently depending on the day? Or is it that collectors sometimes label them wrong? Or something else. I go by whatever the text file says it just seems strange that some get the LoM label and others don’t, but I have no idea if there is a reason.

Great music either way.

Spring has finally reached us in Oklahoma. I took this picture at the botanical garden over the weekend. It was just lovely. Unfortunately, my allergies don’t like it so much and I’m gonna have to mow my yard soon, but for the moment I’ll just focus on the lovely.

For a brief period in 1968 Bob Weir and Pigpen was fired from the Grateful Dead. The rest of the band played a few shows redubbed Mickey and the Hartbeats. I never know whether to file those shows under The Grateful Dead or something else. Here I’ve filed them under Jerry Garcia. Which is why I’m posting them on Tuesday.

Everything here has been previously posted, but several of them have new sources. Enjoy.

I think I’m going to have to slow things down a bit. I’ve already burned up 340 gigs of my Google Drive and its only been a few weeks. At this rate I’ll hit my 2 TB limit in a few months and I’d hate to beg for money so soon since I restarted.

Starting tomorrow I’m gonna try to only upload a few shows each night instead of the ten or more that I’ve been doing.
